This super-budget collection features five well-known tracks by Woody Guthrie
and five by his friend and co-conspirator Pete Seeger
. While each man is well represented, their signature tunes are not present. In Woody
’s case, “This Land Is Your Land” is missing, and in Pete
’s, “If I Had a Hammer” is absent. That said, this is a truly enjoyable -- if brief -- collection of American folk music from the the '30s and '40s at its best. “Gypsy Davy” is here, as is “Pretty Boy Floyd" by Guthrie
, and “House Carpenter” and “Ariran” are here by Seeger
, along with three more apiece. For the money, this little collection satisfies.
