This super-budget collection features five well-known tracks by
Woody Guthrie and five by his friend and co-conspirator
Pete Seeger. While each man is well represented, their signature tunes are not present. In
Woody’s case, “This Land Is Your Land” is missing, and in
Pete’s, “If I Had a Hammer” is absent. That said, this is a truly enjoyable -- if brief -- collection of American folk music from the the '30s and '40s at its best. “Gypsy Davy” is here, as is “Pretty Boy Floyd" by
Guthrie, and “House Carpenter” and “Ariran” are here by
Seeger, along with three more apiece. For the money, this little collection satisfies.
