Album Review

This is a fun set, which is not surprising when one considers that two of jazz's most good-humored players (saxophonist Red Holloway and flugelhornist Clark Terry) are the co-leaders. The sextet (which also includes pianist Gerald Wiggins, guitarist Phil Upchurch, bassist Richard Reid, and drummer Paul Humphrey) plays a colorful set of jazz standards -- including "Red Top," "Come Sunday," and "Cotton Tail" -- and three basic Holloway originals, one of which ("Locksmith Blues") finds Holloway and Terry clearly enjoying themselves while sharing the vocals. Everyone is heard in top form, making this straight-ahead CD an excellent example of the co-leaders' talents.
